A Little Tooth by Thomas Lux Your baby grows a tooth, then two, and four, and five, then she wants some meat directly from the bone. It's all over: she'll learn some words, she'll fall in love with cretins, dolts, a sweet talker on his way to jail. And you, your wife, get old, flyblown, and rue nothing. You did, you loved, your feet are sore. It's dusk. Your daughter's tall.
If you are old enough to wonder where some of the years went, I think this poem will hit you in the same way it hit me. Dusk falls before you know it. Hopefully you get to watch your daughter grow up along the way.
Nice one, thanks! It has an interesting rhythm and message.
Don't know much about poems, and prefer concrete and simple over abstract and mysterious, but trying to appreciate them more. I do like to write empowering rhymes/mantras/poems/raps, and my favorite poem is Invictus -- "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul".
I love poems; I guess it's not for me then (lol)! This poem is about life; simple and beautiful! I love Tagore
